Hydro-tectonics is a project for a new costal mixed-use development that will take place in the South-East of Dalian city center. Our design proposal comes from the reconsideration of the existing masterplan and our engagement with the particularities of the site. We based our proposal on the analysis of the coastal dynamics, the redefinition of the water system and the existing public spaces, the indexing of the different ground conditions, the study of the existing social formations...

“水力构造学”(Hydro-tectonics)是位于大连市中心东南角的一个海滨综合开发计划。我们的设计方案来自对于现有规划的探讨,以及对场地特性的深入理解。方案的基本出发点是对海滨地区动态关系的分析,对水系和现有的公共空间的重新定义,对不同场地条件的参数化分析,以及对现有社会形态的研究。

Most of the urban designs nowadays supply iconic predetermined images focused only on single-sided short-term performance. Conversely, our project was generated by a relational approach in which a network of nodes of different importance and intensity defines the overall structure. The resulting system has a much higher resilience and allows modifications and alterations in time, constantly redefining its morphology without losing its identity.

目前大多的城市规划设计以追求标志性和几何性的视觉效果,聚焦于单一系统,或短期效绩。与之相反,我们方案源于对现状的分析,关注城市各层次之间的关系而定义总体结构。这样的系统更具有适应力,适应未来地形的不断更改与变化,不断地重新定义其形态而保持其特征。

- Link between water canals system and future morphology of the coastline due to natural erosion-sedimentation effects.

PROPOSED INFRASTRUCTURE
- Integration of the water runoff, the costal sedimentation, the connectivity of public spaces and the formerly proposed functional distribution into one single complex system.

TOPOGRAPHIC PARAMETERS AND PROGRAM
- Creation of multiple programmatic bands at different levels and a system of transitional spaces between them.

VARIATIONS AND FINAL TOPOGRAPHY
- Several configurations are pushed to their geometric limit in order to test the hidden potentials of the new spatial relations and extract some valuable guidelines on the possible resulting effects. The final output is in fact a combination of all these attempts.
